SMART TIPS

Keyboard Shortcuts

There are a number of handy keyboard shortcuts available for SmartSearch users. Beyond the most common CTRL+A for selecting all documents in the results grid for performing an action on and F5 for refreshing a Search, there are several very useful shortcuts for navigating from within the document viewer;

Rotate Left – Ctrl+Shift+L
Rotate Right – Ctrl+Shift+R
Next Page – Ctrl+RightArrow
Previous Page – Ctrl+LeftArrow
Zoom In – Ctrl+
Zoom Out – Ctrl-
Print – Ctrl+P
Turn KFI On – Ctrl+K
Next Doc – Ctrl+Shift+N
Previous Doc – Ctrl+Shift+P

BTA Southeast Event

BTA Southeast's Winter Break 2011, open to BTA members and non-members, will feature five education sessions, each sharing industry-specific insight, strategies and practical advice that will help attendees boost their bottom lines. February 17-18 at the Rosen Hotel Plaza in Orlando Florida, the conference will include a round-table discussion on the topic of copier/MFP security, networking events and a trip to Universal Studios Florida.

Strong outlook for 2011 with the release of SmartSearch 3.1

At Square 9® Softworks we are all looking forward with great anticipation to 2011 and with it, the pending release of SmartSearch 3.1. With more than 40 new feature enhancements since the release of 3.0 in March of 2010 the value of SmartSearch increases every month, allowing businesses to drive productivity with new tools for business automation. The 3.1 release scheduled for February 1, 2011 will include these key features, along with many more:

SmartCapture Scanning Module now provided with every seat license
With the release of SmartSearch 3.1, the SmartCapture scanning module will now be available from every workstation with no additional licensing required!

Content Management Module now part of the core SmartSearch product
SmartSearch 3.1 introduces a powerful new tool for business collaboration with the release of our new Revision Control module. Under the content management tab new tools will be available including: Revision Control, Document Publishing, and Check-In/ Check-Out abilities.

The SmartSearch Revision Control Module

SmartSearch 3.1 introduces a powerful new tool for business collaboration with the release of its Revision Control module. Now, working with "living" documents where users need to collaborate while maintaining versions and document controls is both easy and intuitive.

Version control means more than just tracking changes to a record; it also means enforcing business rules for accessing content. Determining who can see previous versions, whether they can roll back edits and deciding what content is available for public consumption are just a few of the benefits of a collaborative environment. As a result, the SmartSearch Revision Control module allows the organization to define these rules within its standard security model.

While the ability to collaborate with live content such as Word or Excel is critical to any revision control initiative, the ability to also edit images is what separates SmartSearch from many popular ECM solutions including Microsoft SharePoint. By leveraging the strength of SmartSearch's powerful imaging tools, users can revise a record "inline" without the need for image editing products like Adobe Acrobat; all while tracking the changes to each version. Simple editing commands like inserting a signature page or re-ordering pages are now joined by more advanced tools for merging PDF records or even appending hundreds of files at a time.
